Orme is an innovative and award-winning architecture practice based in Somerset, offering bespoke design solutions and services to a wide range of domestic and commercial clients across the UK.

Launched in 2009, we have since grown a creative, and highly skilled team of architects, technicians and office support staff, all of who are dedicated to providing a great level of service and outstanding bespoke architecture, whatever the concept, location or budget.

We have always had a strong environmental conscience and look to blend cutting-edge design with the latest innovations in sustainable construction and technology – pushing the boundaries of both contemporary and traditional architecture, without compromising on aesthetic quality.

Meet the team


Edd Medlicott

Managing Director

Edd has worked on a wide variety of sectors including multi-million pound nursing homes, award winning private houses, community and education buildings and a number of commercial projects. He has a thorough knowledge of renewable energy provision and ecological building design, and is a member of the Green Register of Construction Professionals.


Tom Gascoyne

Creative Director

BArch, DIP Arch, RIBA, ARB
Throughout his career Tom has worked on a diverse range of projects from university halls, community buildings and multi-million pound mixed-use regeneration projects to award winning private houses and Passivhaus standard designs. Committed to nurturing creative talent, Tom also mentors students at Bath Spa University. Away from the office Tom is a keen cyclist and daddy to three of his own little creatives.


Matthew Green

Associate Director

BSc (Hons), BArch, RIBA, ARB
Matt joined Orme in 2014 after 10 years of working at award winning architectural practices in Manchester and London. With a broad range of experience across residential, commercial and public building projects, Matt has a keen interest in modern methods of construction and is a talented illustrator. A member of the 20th Century Society, with a particular fondness for California Modernism, he tries to balance design time with his other love – the great outdoors.


Lucy Paterson

Associate Director

BA (Hons), MA, RIBA, ARB
Lucy has experience working on a variety of residential and community projects. She originally studied Interior Design up to MA level, but has always had a passion for architecture and enjoys the connection between the two.


Sam Clough


BA (Hons), MArch, ARB
Sam joined Orme in 2015 after completing his Masters in Architecture at the University of the West of England. He is passionate about creating designs that relate to their context whilst drawing on traditional, contemporary and sustainable construction techniques. He has a wide-ranging experience from hill-forts to dwellings and working on new build and conservation projects in the commercial and residential sectors.


Will Kerry


BA (Hons), MArch, ARB
Will has a range of experience in both the residential and commercial sectors. He has been involved with works to new and existing buildings as well as listed properties and has knowledge of working within National Parks and conservation areas. He also takes a keen interest in the sustainability of the built environment and how architects and architecture can impact positively upon this.


Laura Woods


BSc, Prof. Dip, ARB
Laura started her architectural career in West Wales, where after studying at both Cardiff University and the Center for Alternative Technology in Wales, she focused her passion for energy and resource conscious architecture that is both environmentally and design led. Her passion for the contextuality of rural design and its sense of place informs her ethos that good design can be both strikingly innovative and at harmony with the British countryside’s rich architectural history. Outside of architecture, she is a keen yogi and gardener, carefully tending to a small city garden in Bristol.


James Ellis

Project Runner

N.H. Dip. Architecture, B. Tech Applied Design
James has nearly 30 years of experience in a variety of sectors including residential, industrial, commercial, care and retail, taking projects from inception to completion. James ran a small architectural practice in South Africa for 14 years before relocating to England in 2016. When not working, James enjoys mountain biking, travel and spending time with family and friends.


Tracy Barnes

Project Runner

BAS, BArch(Hons), MArch(Prof)
Tracy joined Orme in 2019 with a Masters degree in Architecture from the University of Pretoria and 10 years experience in residential and large scale commercial projects. She enjoys immersing herself in the cutting edge and historic architecture of England and is passionate about good design and the intimate effect it can have on the lives and well-being of those who interact with it. Off the clock, Tracy attempts to keep up with her very busy little boy and in her occasional spare time, enjoys making things from clothing and jumpers to baked treats and a big mess of the garden.


Paul Britton

Senior Architectural Technician

Paul has worked in a variety of large and small practices for over 35 years, holding a wealth of experience and knowledge of many sectors. His focus is on the technical aspects of a range of projects from initial concept, detailing and contract administration through to completion on site. Out of the office you’ll find Paul fixing old diesel locomotives, playing football and generally enjoying life by the sea.


Andrew Hack

Senior Architectural Technician

Andrew has over 30 years of experience as an Architectural Technician, punctuated by a brief spell in Building Control. He enjoys working on both old and contemporary buildings, producing detailed construction drawings. Amongst his many interests are wood carving, dance, Bonsai and visiting Whitby.


John Roff

Architectural Technician

John has a first class degree in Architectural Technology and Design from The University of the West of England. He has a variety of experience working within the construction industry, including electrical distribution design and a range of residential and commercial projects. He has also spent a year in New Zealand developing his skills within the residential sector.


Connor Nicoll

Senior Architectural Assistant

BA (Hons) DipArch
Connor graduated with Distinction from the Centre for Alternative Technology with a Professional Diploma in Architecture and Advanced Environmental Studies; a course which further increased his passion and technical knowledge of holistic sustainable design. He is particularly focused on the interconnectivity of buildings and natural systems. Out of work Connor is interested in Permaculture design, enjoys playing the piano and is a keen amateur Astronomer.


Jo Steeds

Senior Architectural Assistant

BArch, MArch
Jo has completed her masters degree in Architecture at University of Bath, and has a first class degree in Architecture from the University of Nottingham. She was awarded an Arkwright Engineering Scholarship through her higher education and has had her University work displayed in a London exhibition in 2017. Jo strives to create spaces with character and beauty, which enrich the existing physical and social site context.


Jonathan Davies

Senior Architectural Assistant

BDesArch (Hons), MArch
Jonathan graduated from the University of Sydney with First Class Honours & University Medal before relocating to Sweden to carry out his postgraduate studies at the Laboratory for Sustainable Architectural Production. Alongside his architectural practice, he has coordinated complementary courses in straw bale construction and remains an active cyclist, runner and National Trust enthusiast.


Emily Arber

Senior Architectural Assistant

BA Hons, Prof Dip
Emily studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design at Part 1 and the Center of Alternative Technology to complete Part 2, gaining a professional diploma in advanced energy studies. She has a particular interest in the technical aspects to design, having previously worked on commercial projects ranging in size. She is currently working towards her Part 3 at the University of Bath. In her spare time, she is a keen cyclist, runner and vegetable grower.

Daisy Denny-Higgins

Senior Architectural Assistant

Daisy has recently completed her masters degree in Architecture at the University of the West of England, Bristol and has a degree in Architecture from the Welsh School of Architecture. She is passionate about architecture that responds to its site context, connects you to nature and creates an atmosphere with different materials and daylighting. Outside work she enjoys art and is often found with her horses.


Adam Cross

Architectural Assistant

BSc (Hons)
Adam graduated from the university of Wolverhampton in 2018, where he developed a keen interest in regeneration and mixed-use development. With a key focus on sustainable development, he is passionate about creating architecture that responds to a local context and cultures, as well as creating a high-quality public realm. Aside from the office, Adam enjoys art, cycling and golf.


Rebecca Rimmer

Architectural Assistant

BA (Hons)
Rebecca joined Orme in 2019 with a degree in Architecture from Liverpool John Moore’s University. She is passionate about character property, ensuring the harmonious co-existence with the new and enhancing sustainable and environmentally conscious design. Outside of work, Rebecca enjoys long walks with her dog, spending time with her horse and drawing.


Jacob Ralph

Architectural Assistant

B (hons)
Jacob graduated from Oxford Brookes University in 2017 with a keen interest for sustainable design. Having worked in the building trade, Jacob enjoys all aspects of construction. Aside from the office Jacob has a passion for travel and exploration, rugby and fitness.


Sam Hawkins

Architectural Assistant

BA (Hons)
Sam graduated from Newcastle University in 2018 with a BA(Hons) Architecture degree, where he developed a particular interest in the role perception has within the creation and preservation of buildings, as well as the relationship between architectural design and sustainable modern agriculture. Outside of work, Sam enjoys photography and in particular, ICM photography. Having grown up by the sea, Sam likes making the most of what the coast has to offer and can often be found cycling or attempting to ride a surfboard.


Suzanne Coombe

Finance Manager

Suzanne joined Orme in 2018 bringing her wealth of financial and commercial experience. Having worked for global companies, charities and SME’s, she enjoys all aspects of financial management and planning. Since relocating to Somerset, she spends her free time with her family and going on long dog walks to explore the countryside and coastline.


Suzy House

Practice Manager

Suzy has had a varied career working across the globe. From travel & tourism and global brand management to international conference and events management, Suzy has a wealth of experience in operational management roles. She runs a tight and very jolly Orme ship.


Megan Napper

Office Administrator

As part of the administration team, Megan enjoys contributing to the management of the Orme team, following her studies in Business Administration and Business Studies. Outside of the office, Megan appreciates walking her two spaniels and spending time with family and friends.
